What To Expect
First time seeking therapy?

The first 4-6 sessions will be focusing on getting to know each other. What style of communication will we be using? What are motivating factors? What feels scary?
I will be inquiring about your reasons for coming to therapy. I will be asking about your family dynamics growing up, your current support system, how you perceive yourself, others and your take on life.

Part of feeling safe in therapy is being able to go at your pace without feeling rushed into change. If you already have a clear goal in mind, we'll utilize the first sessions to lay the land and collaboratively identify options to work toward your improvement.
Looking for a new therapist?

Let's face it, we live in California. The Golden State of Therapy. Therapy is a cultural norm when accessible. Sometimes we end our sessions for having reached our goals at the time, other times out of a lacking connection or comfort with our therapist. Regardless, getting an understanding of your last experience(s) will help us to create a solid foundation for your expectations this time around.

I welcome transparent communication from my clients both regarding their past experiences as well as their current experience with me. The more we can be on the same page, the more productive our sessions will be and the better we'll both feel about our work together.

Process of Therapy
I generally envision therapy through 5 stages. The length of each stage varies depending on our dynamic and both internal and external factors we're dealing with. As we move through our progress, we may jump back and forth between the stages. Below gives you an idea of the main focus in each stage:
Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3
Stage 4
Stage 5
Getting to know each other. Building comfort and familiarity. Identifying reasons for therapy.
Discuss expectations of progress. Identifying what results look like. Exploring origins of issues.
Increase insight and self-agency. Find and utilize tools to create change. Confront subconscious patterns.
Build control and confidence. Strengthen new possibilities and ways of being. Support improvement.
Review initial reasons for beginning therapy. Highlight changes and healing. Feel the new you.
